Small to moderate sized slightly compressed fishes Mouth terminal; small teeth in bands Single curvy lateral line with small to moderately large scales Colour extremely variable may be brownish, reddish, and yellow or greenish. Grow upto 30cm, most abundant in 25meter depth. It is brightly coloured fish. Golden yellow stripes found along the body.

Found in coastal waters on mud or sand bottoms, usually in schools, Most of them are carnivorous,feed on small fishes, crustaceans. Dorsal find contnuous without a notch Brownish saddle on top of head, yellow band along belly Caudal fin red, tip or upper lobe and filament bright yellow
